Oracle Autonomous Database is the primary database at my current project, and it serves as a backend for a UI that caters to more than 25000 users per day. It caters their day to day need to transact and fetch reports. Oracle Autonomous Database does a great work of handling all the requests and catering to all the users without any failure.
  • Less resource utilization
  • Quick performance
  • Quick issue resolution
  • Less manual intervention
  • Connectivity to more tech stack
  • Better user control
Oracle Autonomous Database works well with backend structure for applications; however, I felt it has a scope to improve a data warehouse. It can perform really well in OLTP environments however with OLAP it struggles a bit.

Oracle Database is one of the main DB platforms used at Change Healthcare for business-critical systems. It has been installed on over a hundred servers, sized from a few GB to over 100TB.
  • Rich functionality
  • Security
  • Performance
  • DR and HA
  • Versions: introduction of long and short-term versions make it difficult to plan and maintain the databases up to date
  • Patches: CPU, PSU, etc. difficult to keep track of and stay with consistent strategy
Excellent for OLTP
Good for VLDB OLAP but probably not the best

Oracle Autonomous database is specially being used for tracking workload as well as to monitor who can access the database available.
There are numerous business problems that has been solved like:
Performance optimisation
Capacity judgement
Creates more value to data
Improves ROI, Better organisation understanding,Detection of real time threats

  • Real time reporting
  • Developing new application
  • Security
  • Monitoring of Saas solution
  • Hectic process
  • Free training should be provided
  • Clarity issues with dashboard
  • Could be more user friendly
Scenarios where this is best suited are like where there are not large set of data which has to be analyzed and extracted. It helps in the efficiency of data .It is also well suited for medium size companies where you have to create a common data for everyone.
As for large set of data, there can be network latency issues and thus there are some limitations of this software.

We used it for on-premises migration to the cloud. The biggest [benefits] are the ease of administration, automated patching, and scalability. Performance on demand and multiple peak concurrency and usage [is] pretty much out-of-the-box. The existing DBAs can focus on tasks that give more value to the customer instead of routine support tasks.
  • Scalable
  • Concurrency
  • Easy scale up and down
  • Bigger control on configuration

This amazing tool is being used in multiple departments of our organization and it helps us to manage our database. [Oracle Autonomous Database] automatically updates the data in our cloud database and provides good security which enables us to store huge amounts of data. We prefer it for load balancing and high availability.
  • Data security
  • Handling and managing the data
  • Reliable and high performance
  • Reporting part can be improved.
  • Documentation is not up to the mark.
  • Indexing also needs some improvement.
This is very well suited if you have a good amount of data in your database and this will help you to scale and tune that which ultimately can reduce your work effort. The implementation part is a bit tedious as compared to other platforms. Also, there is good support for transactional data loads.

We use Oracle Autonomous Database as an assistant that manages our databases automatically. [...] We fully rely on its machine learning to take administrative decisions on our behalf so we can stay hands off our databases to focus on more important things.
  • Scalable
  • Takes care of all tedious tasks
  • Easy to use
  • They should improve their documentation.
Oracle Autonomous Database is well suited for teams looking for a reliable solution that will allow them to automate all the tedious tasks required to keep their databases up and running and regularly backed up. [It's] also suited for those looking for a simple solution to quickly deploy data from a file to a database.

It was used by multiple BU within the organization, it was used for warehousing purposes and later data marts were created in order to support organization-wide reporting. Able to handle large data volume and support both transactional as well as data warehousing solutions. Integration with other solutions is very easy and user support/community is also very helpful. It reduces the operational cost up to some extent as it's could based.
  • It can automatically scale computing, which provides very fast query processing.
  • No database administration or backup replication as error handling is all done by an autonomous database.
  • It has self repairing attributes.
  • The Oracle machine learning can do predictive analysis.
  • Multimedia could be improved as the workspace manager is missing.
  • Integration with other data sources is limited.
  • I can't seem to update/alter the tablespace.
It is very easy to implement and with almost no maintenance. It provides easy monitoring, by default fine-tuning, and query optimization. The system automatically takes care of required backups and error handling. It provides almost all features supported by RDBMS systems, such as tables, functions, procedures, triggers, etc. It didn't allow to manage database instant memory size or configurations. The alter command will not work.

Oracle Autonomous Database was implemented as part of a proof of concept to simplify database creation and administration, enabling a quick way to deploy new instances without the need for highly trained database administrators in our development environments. Provisioning a new environment, having it disabled when it was not in use, and re-enabled as soon as it was required was one of the advantages we wanted to test.
  • Quick and automated provisioning
  • Automatic scaling
  • Automatic backup
  • Automatic upgrade/patching if required
  • Robust and reliable
  • Importing data from external sources can be simplified (it has been in the latest releases)
  • Cost
We found it extremely recommendable for development and testing environments. It is really simple and quick to create and provision new instances as required, stop them while they are not used, and re-start them when required. Specific environments (like stress tests, compliance, performance testing) can be created and eliminated once they are not required without requiring a system administrator or a database administrator.

Oracle Autonomous Database is used by our central IT organization to support a number of enterprise / administrative systems. It provides a managed cloud solution to provision, manage, backup and patch the DBs. It can also scale up or down easily to meet workloads. The idea is to free up DBA resources from doing operational tasks and provides a high of level of consistency and availability across our environment.
  • Significantly reduces the amount to provision a new database
  • All routine tasks (installation / patching / backup / scaling) are handled by the DB-as-a-service.
  • Built-in security framework that prevents unauthorized access.
  • Provide out-of-the box High Availability and DR.
  • There is no access to the physical host of the DB. This is expected from a managed DB. Everything must be done through the console or via API calls. This is a new learning curve for the DBAs.
  • Due to the lack of physical host access, certain features are not supported, such as Transportable tablespaces and Oracle LogMiner.
  • Certain special data types, (such as XMLType) are not allowed; be sure the app vendor certifies their product on this platform.
[Oracle Autonomous Database] is well suited if you already have an vested interest in the Oracle Cloud, since Autonomous Database will closely integrate into the Oracle Cloud. It will able to deliver faster, simplified, and consistent Oracle deployments. On the other hand, if you're currently using another Cloud provider such as AWS or Microsoft Azure and has no plan to change in the near-term, it's probably not a good idea to invest in the Oracle Cloud. Multi-Cloud integration strategies are often more costly and often have architectural design issues and/or incompatibilities that will be difficult to overcome.

The database is used for central storage of corporate data for multiple departments across the organization. The problem it solves is to consolidate disparate data from the organization. I design applications and approaches for our development team. With my teammate, we come up with approaches for data modeling.
  • Simple data retrieval using standard SQL
  • Capable of supporting many simultaneous users/connections
  • Fast loading of data in batch processing
  • Improved connection abandonment detection would be useful. I occasionally encounter situations where a query becomes unresponsive due to deadlock, volume of data being queried, or other. It would be beneficial if there were better support for client-side cancellation events.
The database is very well suited for online transaction processing as well as offline batch processing. It may be less appropriate for large scale analytics when using the same data models used for OLTP.

Oracle autonomous database is being used by our organization in all environments, like dev.qa and prod. The capabilities are yet to be tested in all aspects, and we are evaluating the product and planning to upgrade all of our Oracle 11g and 12c databases to 19c in the next couple of quarters.
  • Availability.
  • Scalability.
  • Autonomous.
  • Good transactional and data warehouse processing database.
  • It's easy to implement.
  • TDE integrations: today TDE set up needs a lot of environmental setup, and with different configurations, like cdb, pdb, data guard, and golden gate. The product should integrate the TDE by default into the product, and also the Golden Gate is a separate install which also should be integrated, and people will decide based on the use.
Oracle is good OLTP and DSS, but this product needs to improve in the IN-Memory and NO SQL areas. They should make patching easy. With the current process, applying patches has been such that every time we apply a patch, we need to request a new patch for the current version, and then keep repeating this every time, and this needs to be improved. The patch utilities should have the ability to roll back the patches or skip the conflicts and continue forward without human intervention.

We are using for our OLTP system and for our patient data and information. Since it is our core database, we look for a high performing system, which is our Autonomous database. Our various databases range from 10 TB to 25 TB and Autonomous database helps with providing superior performance.
  • Performance tuning.
  • Automatic index creation.
  • Backup.
  • Patching.
  • Provide APIs for interacting with databases.
  • Ability to port GCP.
Oracle Autonomous Database is good for online transaction processing systems. It is well suited for mission-critical applications. Suited for applications where performance is most important. I like the many automated features like patching, backup, and optimization. I don't think it is well-suited for warehouses in the range of 25 Terabytes and up in size.

  • Analytics
  • Patching
  • Maintenance
  • Network speed

  • Affordability
No need for patching, no need for updates. It's always up-to-date. It saves a lot of money because there is no need to pay for database engineers and other clouds to support databases. It is easy to replicate and duplicate databases. We like it for provisioning new databases and replicating old databases. Would like to see more innovation in this field.

Oracle Autonomous Database has been able to solve our RDBMS needs with performance, scale and stability. It contains all the required enterprise features like RAC, Golden Gate and Data Guard. This helps us getting the zero data loss and active/active solutions. The partitioning feature is great for solving data retention and scale problems.
  • Active Active
  • Auto Indexing
  • Partitioning
  • Simplicity of operations
Simplicity is missing big time.
